Tranzman provides three routes to switching backup software, all of the options allow for original backup software can be decommissioned after the meta-data has been indexed.

1) Use the destination backup software to index and facilitate recovery of the data (currently Only for NetBackup as a destination)

Advantage,  original meta-data such as dates and times on the files, and the retention for the files are retained.

If auto-duplicate is used, all data is also converted and duplicated to disk/tape under control of the backup software, Tranzman can also be decommissioned.

If Recovery on demand is used, Tranzman needs to be retained until for the life of the data, or until manual duplication has been done.

2) Use Tranzman to index and recover the legacy backups while new backups go to the new backup product.

Advantage, original meta-data such as dates and times on the files, and the retention for the files are retained.  This can be used in conjunction with ANY new backup product.

Tranzman needs to be retained for the life of the data.

3) Use Tranzman to index and then automatically recover the data  to a network share that is then protected by the new backup product.

Advantage, Data is migrated into the new backup product,

Disadvantage meta data relating to retention etc will be missing.

Tranzman can be decommissioned when all data has been recovered and protected by the new backup software.
