The ability to read the legacy images and convert them to the format required by the destination backup vendor is managed using Tranzmans own built-in readers and writers.
When a request is made to read backup data belonging to an object in the catalog that was converted, the backup product will look for the image on a NFS/CIFS volume mounted on the destination backup server, which was shared from the Tranzman appliance. This share contains stub files for every converted object in the catalog, when a request is made to read the file Tranzman intercepts the request and initiates the conversion of the data, by reading the source media directly, and writing the converted data files to the NFS/CIFS share. The backup product then uses the files to complete a recovery or perform a duplication.
